Sindh University Organizes Orientation Day For Newly Enrolled Students

The Vice Chancellor University of Sindh Jamshoro Prof Dr Fateh Muhammad Burfat has advised the students to fully concentrate on their education and avail all available facilities for stead study so that they could play their pivotal role in the progress and prosperity of their homeland
"Future belongs to those who invest their indefatigable effort in the present and it is great fortune for students to have been able to seek placement in this premier and one of the country's finest seats of higher learning, he said and added that the students should learn the art of mastering their minds and regulating emotions.
The Vice Chancellor stated this while addressing 2019 batch of SU entrants in a rainbow-colored, festive and sprightly Orientation Day 2019 ceremony, organized by Bureau of Students Tutorial Guidance/ Counseling Services and Co-curricular Activities (STAGS) at the Convention Centre of the varsity on Wednesday.
Dr Burfat citing a quote of Pakistani Nobel Laurent Malala Yousufzai said that a single child, teacher, book and pen were sufficient paraphernalia to change the world. "Here, you are not just by yourselves, your number runs in thousands, your size is in soaring swells; summon up courage, go ahead and by best educating yourselves transform the world into its better and happier version", Vice-Chancellor impressed upon swarming multitude of students in attendance.
Terming constructive youth activism as a panacea to country's social ailments, he alluded an instance from his own personal experience whereby he said he had been tasked by the UN with sociological study of 55 public and private universities across Pakistan, and comparing University of Sindh with all the studied 55 institutions, he said he had found SU as the best, most secular, most liberal and most democratic campus.
The teaching departments and institutes are well-equipped, libraries and laboratories well-stocked, teachers experienced and foreign qualified, staff dedicated, environs conducive and what else the students think they would be wishing to have at a university, he said.
Earlier, Director, Bureau of STAGS Dr Sumera Umrani in her welcome address highlighted the purpose, objectives, mission and annual Calendar of the Bureau.
The Director Quality Enhancement Cell Dr. Shahzad Memon briefed students about the varsity's history, campuses, faculties, centers, academic departments, student strength, academic programmes, quality paradigms, ISO certification and varsity distinction of being in the top rank of QU Asia ranking.
The Director Information Technology Services Centre Dr Yasir Arfat Malkani filled in students on the IT infrastructure and services, online examination system and online admission process of the varsity.
The Director Students' Financial Aid Office Dr Fiza Qureshi informed the students about HEC and other scholarship opportunities and procedures.
The Convener Protection of Women against Harassment at Workplace Dr Nasim Aslam Channa shared with the students the provision of option to complain in case they faced harassed in any manner whatsoever, ensuring them of fullest cover in the given context.
On the occasion, an especially-able student of Institute of Commerce Sahil Hussain Bughio also made a motivational speech which moved audience to tears.
The Pro-vice-chancellors of Sindh University campuses, deans of various faculties, academic and administrative heads and many other prominent personalities were present on the occasion.
