WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 26th January, 2019) US President Donald Trump will be invited to the House chamber to deliver the annual State of the Union address once the government reopens and a date can be scheduled, House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi told reporters.
"What I said to the president is, 'When government is open, we will discuss a mutually agreeable date,' and I look forward to doing that and welcoming the President to the House of Representatives for the State of the Union," Pelosi said on Friday.
Plans for the speech on January 29 fell apart during the 36-day partial shutdown of the Federal government, when Pelosi first suggested that Trump delay the speech during the shutdown and later disinvited the president.
To deliver the traditional address in the House, the president must first be invited with a joint resolution by both houses of Congress.
Earlier on Friday, Trump and congressional leaders reached an agreement to end the shutdown by reopening the government for three weeks of negotiations, in which Democrats and Republican will attempt to resolve differences over the president's demand for money to build a wall on the Mexican border.
The US Senate has already approved legislation and funds needed to end a partial shutdown of the federal government, setting the stage for a vote in the House of Representatives and President Donald Trump's signature.
