Russia to Participate in Project to Modernize Cuban Railroads - Deputy Prime Minister

Russia will participate in the project on modernization of Cuban railroads worth 2 billion euro ($2.2 billion), Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yury Borisov said on Friday after a meeting with his Cuban counterpart, Ricardo Cabrisas

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 25th January, 2019) Russia will participate in the project on modernization of Cuban railroads worth 2 billion euro ($2.2 billion), Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yury Borisov said on Friday after a meeting with his Cuban counterpart, Ricardo Cabrisas.

"We have very well advanced on the implementation of a project to modernize Cuba's railroad network that is profitable to both parties. The cost of this project is almost 2 billion euro. [The term is] seven years. It will be a key project for the economy of Cuba," Borisov told reporters.

Borisov and Cabrisas co-chaired a meeting of the Russian-Cuban Intergovernmental Commission in Moscow earlier on Friday. The sides discussed cooperation related to revamping railroad transportation, restoring the airworthiness of air fleet and upgrading Cuba's energy sector and nickel factory.

The 16th session of the Russian-Cuban intergovernmental commission was held on October 29-30 in the Cuban capital of Havana.
