NATO Remains Committed to Continuing Dialogue With Russia - Stoltenberg

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 25th January, 2019) The members of the NATO alliance agree that the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty is currently in jeopardy, but the alliance is ready to maintain dialogue with Moscow on the issue on different levels, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said Friday after the NATO-Russia Council session.

"It was a successful and useful and professional meeting, at which we discussed two important topics: Ukraine and the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty. On both of these issues, Allies and Russia fundamentally disagree. But that is exactly why it is important to talk," Stoltenberg told reporters.

"All members of the NATO-Russia Council agree that the Treaty has been crucial to Euro-Atlantic security. But the Treaty is now in jeopardy. And unfortunately, we have not seen any signs of a breakthrough," the official said.

NATO remains committed to continuing dialogue with Russia on different levels, including on the INF issue, Stoltenberg concluded.
