Russian Firm Group-IB Offers to Create UN-Based Cooperation Protocol on Cyberattacks

Moscow-based cybersecurity firm Group-IB offers to introduce a UN-based protocol on interaction between countries in the event of cyberattacks, the company's CEO and founder, Ilya Sachkov, told Sputnik

GENEVA (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 22nd January, 2019) Moscow-based cybersecurity firm Group-IB offers to introduce a UN-based protocol on interaction between countries in the event of cyberattacks, the company's CEO and founder, Ilya Sachkov, told Sputnik.

"I would recommend that everyone, and I hope this will based on UN [regulations], introduce a specific protocol for correctly collecting [information about] affiliations to a cyberattack at the time of computer attacks between different states. Such an interaction protocol should be created and based on UN [regulations]. And if one country suspects another of a cyberattack, then there should not be mutual accusations, but a commission should be formed and an investigation should be conducted in accordance with certain rules. And if the country is actually responsible, a harsh fine should be imposed on it because the use of cyberweapons, even for espionage, is dangerous," Sachkov said in an interview.

Finding parties responsible for cyberattacks is an extremely relevant topic right now, the expert noted.

"A lot of companies, journalists, sometimes even states accuse other countries of attacks, based on a very inaccurate data. For example, when they [hackers] have left a Russian word in their code, or, even more ridiculously, worked based on Moscow 9 a.m.-6 p.m. work schedule. This is not computer forensic evidence. And based on this, some countries accuse other states of computer attack," the CEO of Group-IB underlined.

In 2017, the Group-IB and Interpol signed an information exchange agreement to better combat cybercrime.
