MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 22nd January, 2019) Russia is preparing for a new Moscow format meeting on Afghanistan, however, the date of the talks has not been set yet, Director of the Russian Foreign Ministry Second Asian Department Zamir Kabulov told Sputnik.

"We are not organizing these Moscow meetings for the sake of a meeting. We are getting ready, and as soon as we and our partners within the Moscow format feel that we can take another step in advancing toward national reconciliation, we will convene [the meeting]. But we have not set any specific date so far," Kabulov said.

The first round of Moscow format talks on Afghanistan was held in April 2017 and was attended by deputy foreign ministers and special representatives of 11 countries interested in achieving peace in Afghanistan.

On November 9, the Russian capital hosted the most recent meeting in such a format. The negotiations were marked by a closed-door meeting between the Afghanistan High Peace Council and the political office of the Taliban movement in Doha, which took part in this kind of meeting for the first time.
