Russian, Egyptian Foreign Ministers Discuss MidEast, Russia-African Union Summit - Moscow

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Egyptian counterpart, Sameh Shoukry, discussed on Monday the situation in the Middle East, bilateral relations and the planned Russia-African Union summit, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 21st January, 2019) Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Egyptian counterpart, Sameh Shoukry, discussed on Monday the situation in the middle East, bilateral relations and the planned Russia-African Union summit, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

"The sides exchanged views on the current situation in the Middle East and North Africa, including the situation in Syria, Libya, the Palestinian-Israeli settlement, efforts to convene a conference on the establishment of a zone free of weapons of mass destruction in the Middle East ... Preparations for the Russia-African Union summit, which will be chaired by Egypt this year, were discussed," the statement reads.

The ministers reaffirmed their commitment to continue cooperation in order to overcome crisis situations and ensure peace in the region.

The sides also discussed some topical aspects of Russian-Egyptian bilateral relations.
