More job opportunities for UK graduates this summer despite uncertainty over Brexit: survey

Despite the uncertainty over Brexit, there will be more job opportunities for students graduating from British universities this summer than at any time in the past decade, according to an annual survey of 100 leading employers in Britain

LONDON, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st Jan, 2019 ) :Despite the uncertainty over Brexit, there will be more job opportunities for students graduating from British universities this summer than at any time in the past decade, according to an annual survey of 100 leading employers in Britain.

The Times newspaper reported Monday that, based on the survey conducted by research firm High Fliers, top companies in the UK plan to hire a total of over 22,000 graduates this year, which is a 9.1 percent rise over last year and the biggest increase since 2010.

The civil service and other public sector employers will hire most graduates, while accounting, engineering and industrial companies will also be big employers.

BP, Barclays, Deloitte, Goldman Sachs, Unilever, PwC and the National Health Service were among the firms surveyed for the report.

Author of the survey report Martin Birchall said, "Our latest research shows that despite all the continuing uncertainty over Brexit, the UK's top employers are planning to recruit a record number of new graduates in 2019." "The growth in graduate vacancies for 2019 is the highest for nine years and there are more opportunities than ever before for university undergraduates to do paid work experience with the country's leading employers," Birchall added.

He said the top accounting and professional services firms are busier than ever, partially because of Brexit and the demand for expert guidance to clients in uncertain times.

However, the starting salaries for graduates will remain unchanged for the fifth consecutive year at a median of 30,000 Pounds, added the report.
