A Russian national arrested in Norway for stabbing a woman in a supermarket has so far declined assistance by the Russian diplomatic mission, the Russian ambassador in Oslo told Sputnik on Monday

TROMSO (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 21st January, 2019) A Russian national arrested in Norway for stabbing a woman in a supermarket has so far declined assistance by the Russian diplomatic mission, the Russian ambassador in Oslo told Sputnik on Monday.

"We were contacted two days after [his arrest]. We offered our services. He has so far declined to meet with the Russian consul," Teymuraz Ramishvili said.

The 20-year-old man was arrested last Thursday after knifing a woman at a grocery store in downtown Oslo. A local court has ordered him detained for four weeks until the next hearing on February 15.

The suspect comes from the Bashkortostan region in southern Russia, the diplomat said. He traveled to Norway via Sweden shortly before the attack. Norwegian investigators are treating it as a possible act of terrorism.
