CARACAS (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 21st January, 2019) The western district of the Venezuelan capital of Caracas, where a brief military uprising took place on Monday, is experiencing problems with internet connection, a Sputnik correspondent reported.

Earlier in the day, the Nacional media outlet reported that a group of soldiers seized a military office in western Caracas.

The Venezuelan Armed Forces said that the servicemen involved in the revolt had been detained and questioned by the country's intelligence services.

The rebels were reportedly supported by people who came to the area, built barricades on the streets and called on the insurgents to not surrender. The Venezuelan security services used tear gas to disperse the protesters.

The incident occurred several days after Nicolas Maduro was sworn in as Venezuelan president for a second term. A large number of countries in Latin America as well as the United States have refused to recognize the legitimacy of Maduro's new term.
