Parliament respected for character, not splendor: Punjab Governor Chaudhary Muhammad Sarwar

Punjab Governor Chaudhary Muhammad Sarwar has said that the parliament was respected for its service and character rather than grandeur and power

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th Jan, 2019 ) :Punjab Governor Chaudhary Muhammad Sarwar has said that the parliament was respected for its service and character rather than grandeur and power.

Addressing a ceremony to commemorate 1st death anniversary of Chairman Sundas Foundation and journalist Munnu Bhai at a local hotel here on Saturday, he said state institutions like the Governor's House, Prime Minister's House and the Parliament must serve people otherwise they would lose their credibility and respect.

Punjab Governor said though it was out of place to discuss politics at a ceremony to observe the first death anniversary of a great social worker, journalist and human being par excellence but it was my responsibility to remind that Parliament was an institution made up of the peoples' elected representatives. He said how unfortunate it was that the parliament had failed to deliver and work for the welfare of the masses in the past.

Sarwar said the politicians should respect each other and pay focus on the national affairs if they wanted to strengthen democracy and the country.

He said it was ironic that tall claims were made by the past rulers of putting the country on the course to progress but 220 million children were still out of schools while innocent people were exposed to diseases like hepatitis and tuberculosis.

Quoting a research conducted by Sarwar Foundation, his own non-governmental organization (NGO), he said 20 percent policemen in the province suffered from hepatitis.

Governor Sarwar hailed the services of late Munnu Bhai for the cure of thalassemia in the province adding that the government would support charitable causes in the country.
