WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 19th January, 2019) US President Donald Trump on Saturday said that he is grateful to Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller for retraction of the report published by BuzzFeed alleging Trump directed his former personal attorney to lie to Congress.BuzzFeed originally reported on Thursday, citing unnamed law enforcement officials, that Trump personally directed his then-attorney Michael Cohen to lie to Congress about talks related to building a Trump Tower in Moscow. On Saturday, Mueller said in a statement that those claims "were not accurate".
Trump said to his journalistic pool that he was grateful to Mueller.
Mueller is investigating claims that Russia meddled in the 2016 US election, as well as allegations of collusion between Trump's campaign team and Moscow.
Russia has repeatedly denied interfering in the 2016 US presidential election, saying the allegations were made up to excuse the election loss of a presidential candidate as well as deflect public attention from actual instances of electoral fraud and corruption.
Trump has also denied colluding with Russia, frequently characterizing Mueller's investigation as a political witch hunt and one that has not produced evidence in two years.
