MADRID (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 18th January, 2019) Spain plans to allocate 235 billion Euros ($267 billion) for fight against climate change and the development of energy efficiency technologies in the period of 2021-2030, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said on Friday.

The National Energy and Climate Plan 2021-2030 will soon be submitted to the European Commission for consideration.

"These are concrete, real and effective measures," Sanchez said at an event, organized by the Spanish Ministry for Ecological Transition.

He recalled that the draft state budget for 2019 envisaged a 5.1 percent increase in investment in research, development and innovation, which is extremely important to address climate change issues.

According to Sanchez, climate change is "a challenge for all," since it does not "know countries, ideologies and civilizations."

"One cannot seek individual responses to problems that demand collective responses," he added.

Speaking at the 24th UN Climate Change Conference in Poland's Katowice in early December, Sanchez pledged that Spain would annually allocate 900 million euros on reducing harmful emissions and fighting climate change starting from 2020.
