58 % of expat complaints forwarded by citizen portal resolved

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th Jan, 2019 ) :The Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development (OP&HRD) had resolved around 1054 complaints, out of total 1812 , forwarded by the Pakistan Citizen Portal (PCP), set up by the incumbent government around two months back.

It is aimed at ensuring better communication between the state and its citizens.

According to official sources on Thursday, over 58 per cent of complaints had been referred to relevant departments to redress Pakistan diaspora grievances at the earliest while 488 (26 per cent) were in progress and the remaining 270 (14 per cent) complaints were newly registered with the portal.

They said these complaints were lodged by the Pakistani expatriates through 17 Community Welfare Attachees (CWA), designated by the Ministry in different countries and other relevant departments at home.

The sources said majority of complainants pointed out their grabbed properties in Pakistan by the land mafias and lengthy legal proceedings while others related to employment, visa, Iqama (Work Permit) , salary and increased visa fee related issues.

The CWA, Consulate General of Pakistan Dubai-I remained highest complaints' filers with 316, out of which 178 had been resolved while 62 were in process and 76 were recently filed at the portal.

The CWA, Consulate General of Pakistan Jeddah-II followed the Dubai-I consulate, registered around 117 out of which over 72 had been redressed while the CWA, Embassy of Pakistan Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates had submitted around 115 complaints, out of which 56 had been resolved.

Meanwhile, the CWA, Consulate General of Pakistan, Barcelona, Spain and Baghdad, each, filed only one complaint.

Among others, the CWAs at Consulate General of Pakistan and embassies of Dubai-II, Jeddah-I, Malaysia, Manchester, New York, Italy, Qatar, Doha, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Riyadh-I and II had also forwarded different complaints of the Pakistani diaspora.

The local departments dealing with the expatriates problems here, had also lodged huge number of complaints with the Pakistan Citizen Portal.

At home, the maximum grievances, pertaining to Pakistani Diaspora forwarded by Managing Director (MD) Overseas Pakistanis Foundation to the Portal, were 247 whereas over 208 were lodged by the Secretary OP&HRD.

Chairman Employees Old-Age Benefits Institution, Secretary Worker Welfare Fund, Chairman National Industrial Relation Commission and Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment had also approached the Portal with number of complaints being faced by the overseas Pakistanis in different countries.

Talking to APP, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on OP& HRD Syed Zulfikar Abbas Bukhari said they were fully committed to facilitating the overseas Pakistanis who had been serving the country by sending huge amount of cash in the form of remittances.

In this regard, he said the department had taken several initiatives ranging from digitization of the ministry's affairs to provision of direct access to them to the authorities concerned.

To a query, the SAPM highlighted his ministry's future endeavours and said they were likely to set up digital challenger bank to boost remittances and special court aimed at ensuring swift trial of their property related cases.

He said the department had established its own portal 'Call Sarzameen' for the Pakistani Diasporawhich registered around 250 complaints, out of which 215 had been resolved and the remnants were inprocess.
