CJP Nisar gives farewell speech at Full Court Reference

The CJP said there is no room for fear in the life of a judge.

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 17th January, 2019) Outgoing Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Mian Saqib Nisar on Thursday addressed a full court reference held to honour his services.

Judges of the superior courts, senior lawyers, bar members and the court' staff participated in the event.

In his farewell speech, the CJP said the Supreme Court gave several landmark decisions.

He said, “The first one was the decision on Gilgit Baltistan. Then we took notice of water shortage in the country and the whole nation donated to resolve the issue.”

He added that the court also took up the issue of increasing population.

“We worked for the rights of the oppressed and gave everyone the right to lead a respectful life.”

The CJP said there is no room for fear in the life of a judge.

He went on to say, “We granted overseas Pakistanis the right to vote. We took notice of the high fee charged by private hospitals as well as the matter of granting National Identity Cards (NICs) to transgender persons.”

“I tried to return the respect that people honoured me with,” he added.

“I worked within the code of ethics of judges. For me, serving the country was an honour,” he said.
