Roskomnadzor Says Info Given by BBC on Complying With Law Not Exhaustive, Sends 2nd Demand

Russian Federal Service for Supervision of Communications (Roskomnadzor) received from BBC World News in Russia required documents proving the broadcaster's compliance with the national law, but the information was not exhaustive and the watchdog has send the second request, Roskomnadzor's press service said Thursday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 17th January, 2019) Russian Federal Service for Supervision of Communications (Roskomnadzor) received from BBC World News in Russia required documents proving the broadcaster's compliance with the national law, but the information was not exhaustive and the watchdog has send the second request, Roskomnadzor's press service said Thursday.

Roskomnadzor said on December 21 it had started the checks to verify the compliance by the BBC World News, as well as BBC internet resources, with the Russian law after the UK Office of Communications (Ofcom) accused the RT broadcaster of breaching the regulator's rules and failing to provide impartial news coverage in seven programs aired in March and April.

"On January 16, BBC provided us with the documents previously requested. However, the provided information was not exhaustive. Therefore, today we have sent a repeated request to provide all the necessary information confirming compliance with the law on restricting foreign control over media in Russia," the watchdog said.
