:Rawalpindi City Traffic Police (CTP) issued 717,785 challan tickets with mounting to over Rs280 million imposed on traffic rules violators during 2018
RAWALPINDI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th Jan, 2019 ) :Rawalpindi City Traffic Police (CTP) issued 717,785 challan tickets with mounting to over Rs280 million imposed on traffic rules violators during 2018.
According to Chief Traffic Officer (CTO), Muhammad Bin Youaf, city traffic police in its efforts for the smooth flow of traffic on city roads impounded 5516 vehicles and 18,248 motorcycles in various police stations on severe traffic rules violations while a number of drivers were also arrested during the period.
The CTO said that action in accordance with the law was taken against the traffic rules violators in Rawalpindi city, Murree, Kotli Sattian, Taxila, Gujar Khan, Kalar Syedan and Kahuta tehsils.
12807 tinted glass vehicles were challaned and black papers were removed on the spot. Over 19449 without registration, without number plate or improper number plate vehicles and motorcycles were imposed fines. Drivers of 11904 vehicles on wrong parking were issued challan slips during last year. Similarly, over 9214 drivers of vehicles and motorcycles on rash and negligent driving were penalized. 15958 drivers of public service vehicles on violation of route permits and non-completion of their designated routes were issued penalty tickets.
15270 under age drivers, 19605 drivers on use of mobile phones while driving, 31431 drivers who did not have driving licenses were challaned. Action in accordance with the law was taken against 12250 for creating hurdles in smooth flow of traffic, 19285 for violating traffic signals, 9587 for violating lane, line and zebra crossing were penalized. Similarly, on violation of one-way traffic and driving on wrong side, 21676 drivers were challaned.
He informed that a special campaign was launched against helmet-less bikers and CTP issued over 130,000 challan tickets to the violators for not using safety helmets. FIRs were also registered against drivers on severe traffic rules violators, he added.
The CTO said that traffic awareness campaigns were also run during the period while under special campaigns, the citizens were educated regarding traffic rules and road safety.
Education Wing of Traffic Police made efforts to spread awareness so that the road journey could be made safe and sound.
The CTO urged the people to cooperate with traffic wardens as they are on the roads to facilitate them. A special squad is available to help and facilitate the citizens on Helpline 1915, he added.
