KIEV (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 17th January, 2019) The Ukrainian parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, passed on Thursday law on changes to the jurisdiction of religious communities that may deprive the country's canonical church, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Moscow Patriarchate, of its cathedrals, a Sputnik correspondent reported from the scene.

The law was passed by 229 to 226 votes.

According to the law, the parishioners may change the jurisdiction of a religious community if at least two thirds of the flock vote for it. Those who disagree with the changes of the community's jurisdiction have the right set up a new one and use the religious building for its ceremonies after obtaining permission from the owner, the law stipulates.
