Oleg Deripaska, a Russian metals tycoon and the founder of one of the world's largest aluminum companies, Rusal, has filed a lawsuit against prominent Russian politician and leader of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF) Gennady Zyuganov, seeking 1 million rubles (over $15,000) in moral damages, the businessman's representative told Sputnik on Thursday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 17th January, 2019) Oleg Deripaska, a Russian metals tycoon and the founder of one of the world's largest aluminum companies, Rusal, has filed a lawsuit against prominent Russian politician and leader of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF) Gennady Zyuganov, seeking 1 million rubles (over $15,000) in moral damages, the businessman's representative told Sputnik on Thursday.

According to the representative, the businessman is suing Zyuganov for publicly calling Rusal a scam and a crime.

"We regard this statement as an insult to [Deripaska's] dignity and a deliberate attempt to inflict damage to the reputation of both the founder of the Rusal company and to all employees involved in its creation and development," the representative said.

Deripaska's representative stressed that the defendant only used market tools to create his company, which has grown to become one of the most socially responsible businesses in Russia.

"Zyuganov's statement about Oleg Deripaska's involvement in the 'scam' is offensive and unacceptable and we will defend our position legally. A lawsuit was filed with the Tverskoy District Court of Moscow for the recovery of compensation of moral damages in the amount of 1 million rubles from Gennady Zyuganov," the representative added.

Earlier in January, Zyuganov called Deripaska's aluminum business a major "scam," arguing that Rusal plants had been "stolen from citizens" and were now being given to the Anglo-Saxons, pointing to the fact that the company was incorporated in Jersey, a self-governing island off the coast of the United Kingdom for which the latter is responsible.
