SBU Detains Journalist Boyko for Calls for Violation of Ukraine's Territorial Integrity

Ukrainian journalist Olena Boyko, known for her support for the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic, has been detained by the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) for publishing anti-Ukraine materials on the Internet and calling for the violation of the country's territorial integrity, the SBU said in a statement on Thursday

KIEV (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 17th January, 2019) Ukrainian journalist Olena Boyko, known for her support for the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic, has been detained by the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) for publishing anti-Ukraine materials on the internet and calling for the violation of the country's territorial integrity, the SBU said in a statement on Thursday.

On Wednesday, Boyko, who tried to seek political asylum in Russia in order to escape prosecution in Ukraine, was deported to her home country after a Moscow court ruled that the journalist had been staying in Russia illegally.

"The Security Service of Ukraine has detained anti-Ukrainian propagandist Olena Boyko (Vishchur), who was expelled from the Russian Federation. Since 2014, the propagandist distributed materials of anti-Ukrainian nature on the Internet, promoted confrontation between Ukrainians, based on their political opinion, publicly called for violation of Ukraine's territorial integrity," the statement, published on the SBU's official website, said.

According to the statement, Boyko has been publicly calling for changing the country's borders and its form of government since 2015.

A criminal investigation into the case has been opened by Ukrainian authorities, with the journalist facing up to five years in prison.
