Says he will make a dam against fake and prolonged cases

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 17th January, 2019) A full-court reference to honour outgoing Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar is being held in the Supreme Court today.

CJP-designate Justice Asif Saeed Khosa while addressing the full-court reference said he has been with CJP Nisar for the past two years.

“We became the judges of Lahore High Court together. We grew up together and we are like those kids today who will be separated,” he said.

He said that CJP Nisar run the affairs of the court in testing times, adding that he faced many difficulties, including social, political and constitutional. CJP Nisar’s services for humanity will be remembered, he said.

Justice Khosa said that he will try to end the delay in the provision of justice. “The pending cases in the lower courts will be disposed off quickly. New technology will be used to stop unnecessary delays.”

He said that he wants to follow the footsteps of CJP Nisar to construct dams and pay off the country’s debt.

“I will make a dam against fake and prolonged cases,” he said.

Justice Khosa said that 1.9 million cases are currently pending in the courts in Pakistan; 3000 judges cannot conclude these 1.9 million cases.

He vowed to make minimal use suo-motu.

“I have Baloch blood in my veins. I will fight till my last breath,” the incoming CJP said.

Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa will assume charge as the next Chief Justice of Pakistan on January 18, 2019 after CJP Nisar will retire today.
