WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 17th January, 2019) The White House in a statement on Wednesday expressed sympathy to the families of the five US soldiers killed in a terrorist attack in Manbij, Syria.
"Our deepest sympathies and love go out to the families of the brave American heroes who were killed today in Syria," White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said. "We also pray for the soldiers who were wounded in the attack. Our service members and their families have all sacrificed so much for our country."
Earlier on Wednesday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said 27 people, including five US soldiers, were killed in a terrorist attack in Manbij. Erdogan noted that the attack was carried out by the Islamic State terror group (banned in Russia).
A spokesperson for the US-led coalition fighting the Islamic State confirmed via Twitter that US service members were killed on Wednesday in an explosion while conducting a routine patrol in Syria. The spokesperson added that more details will be provided after the coalition gathers additional information on the attack.
