Mueller Publishes Evidence Of Manafort Lying To US Investigators

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 16th January, 2019) US Special Counsel Robert Mueller's team published a heavily-redacted document on Tuesday to back up claims that the president's former campaign chief Paul Manafort had lied to investigators.

The 31-page filing with a Washington D.C. court, penned by FBI agent Jeffrey Weiland, sought to provide the "evidentiary basis" that some of Manafort's statements made as part of his plea bargain were false.

The alleged lies include his denial of having had contacts with officials of Donald Trump's administration, the nature of a $125,000 payment to a firm working for him, and his interactions with former business associate Konstantin Kilimnik, with whom he admitted conspiring.

Mueller is investigating claims that Russia meddled in the 2016 US presidential election, as well as allegations of collusion between Trump's campaign team and Moscow.

Russia has repeatedly denied interfering in the vote, saying the allegations were made up to excuse the election loss of a presidential candidate.

Trump has also denied colluding with Russia, frequently calling Mueller's investigation as a political witch hunt that has not produced evidence in two years.
