Venezuela's Maduro Vows To Punish National Assembly For Breaking Law

MEXICO CITY (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 16th January, 2019) Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has promised to hold the opposition-run National Assembly accountable for "making fun" of the constitution.

The parliament published a statement on Tuesday calling the president an "usurper" after refusing to recognize his re-election last May in what it claims was a fraudulent poll.

"Those who want to make fun of the constitution, let them ridicule it, there will be justice... The Supreme Court will put things in their place," Maduro was quoted as saying by the national AVN news agency.

Maduro was sworn in on Thursday amid protests by the United States and its allies who have called on the Venezuelan president to reestablish democratic rule in the country.
