Juncker Regrets Brexit Deal Rejection By UK Parliament, Calls On UK To Clarify Intentions

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 16th January, 2019) European Commission President Jean Claude Juncker said on Tuesday that he took note of the Brexit deal rejection by the UK Parliament with regret and called on London to clarify its intentions as soon as possible.

Earlier in the day, the UK Parliament voted against the Brexit deal agreed during long-running negotiations between London and Brussels.

"I take note with regret of the outcome of the vote in the House of Commons this evening. On the EU side, the process of ratification of the Withdrawal Agreement continues ... I urge the United Kingdom to clarify its intentions as soon as possible. Time is almost up," Juncker said in a published statement.

He pointed out that the UK Parliament's decision had increased the risk of disorderly Brexit.

"The risk of a disorderly withdrawal of the United Kingdom has increased with this evening's vote. While we do not want this to happen, the European Commission will continue its contingency work to help ensure the EU is fully prepared," Juncker added.
