BEIJING (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 15th January, 2019) Chinese Vice Premier Liu He accepted the US invitation to visit the country and will hold trade negotiations there on January 30-31, local media reported on Tuesday.

According to the South China Morning Post newspaper, Liu will try to put an end to the ongoing trade war between China and Washington during the talks.

The Chinese vice premier is going to meet US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer during the visit.

That will be the second round of the US-Chinese trade consultations this year as the first round of talks was held in Beijing on January 7-9.

China and the United States have been engaged in a trade war since US President Donald Trump announced in June that $50 billion worth of Chinese goods would be subject to 25 percent tariffs in a bid to fix the US-Chinese trade deficit. Since then, the two countries have exchanged several rounds of trade tariffs.

In early December, Trump and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping called for a truce in their escalating trade war after their meeting on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Buenos Aires.
