Snow Removing Operation In Progress At Lowari Tunnel

Heavy snowfall and extreme weather conditions at Lowari Tunnel and around have severely affected the flow of traffic there
In order to ensure traffic movement, snow removing operation is in progress, said a press release issued by the National Highway Authority on Tuesday.
During day time, the tunnel will be opened to traffic from 06:00 am to 08:00 am, 09:00 am to 12:00 Noon, 02:00 pm to 05 pm and 06:00 pm to 08:00 pm. However, in order to ensure safety of the commuters in heavy snowfall and subsequent sliding and slippery situation Lowari Tunnel will remain closed at night from 08:00 pm to 06:00 am for all kinds of traffic, said the press release .
Speed limit of 40 Km per hour will be observed strictly and no vehicle either passenger or goods shall be allowed during the passage of fuel tankers.
Chief Operating Officer,Lowari Tunnel, has been authorized to close the tunnel in case of accumulation of smoke or any other emergency.
However, ambulance and vehicles carrying patients or dead bodies, vehicles of law enforcing agencies, police, National Highway Authority and National Highway & Motorway Police may be allowed during closure timings.
