Delivery of modified AESA [active electronically scanned array] radar for the US Marine Corp's F/A 18C/D classic Hornet jet fleet will begin in 2000 and require two years to complete, Raytheon announced in a press release on Tuesday

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 15th January, 2019) Delivery of modified AESA [active electronically scanned array] radar for the US Marine Corp's F/A 18C/D classic Hornet jet fleet will begin in 2000 and require two years to complete, Raytheon announced in a press release on Tuesday.

"The US Marine Corps selected Raytheon's APG-79(v)4 AESA radar to equip its F/A-18C/D classic Hornet fleet," the release said. "Raytheon (NYSE: RTN) will begin delivering radars in 2020 and complete deliveries by 2022."

The APG-79(v)4 is a scaled version of the APG-79 AESA radar previously integrated on the US Navy and Royal Australian Air Force's Super Hornets and EA-18G Growlers, the release said.

The upgrade will allow Marine Corps pilots to identify, track and engage more targets over a greater distance, while boosting radar reliability and reducing time needed for maintenance, the release said.

The AESA system features a phased-array antenna, which allows the radar beam to lock on to different targets in multiple directions without moving the antenna.
