Saudi Energy Minister Urges Neighbors to Help Out Conflict-Torn Nations in Region

Saudi Energy Minister Khalid Falih appealed on Tuesday to the kingdom's neighbors to help conflict-torn countries such as Iraq, Libya, Syria and Yemen restore peace, and not only through diplomatic means, but also by providing assistance in improving these countries' energy sustainability

ABU DHABI (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 15th January, 2019) Saudi Energy Minister Khalid Falih appealed on Tuesday to the kingdom's neighbors to help conflict-torn countries such as Iraq, Libya, Syria and Yemen restore peace, and not only through diplomatic means, but also by providing assistance in improving these countries' energy sustainability.

"Countries like Saudi Arabia, UAE [United Arab Emirates], Kuwait and others need to focus on countries that need rebuilding and coming out of tragic conflicts. So countries like Syria, Iraq, Yemen and Libya in the future need not only extending of our hands in terms of diplomacy and peacemaking, but acknowledging that energy and sustainability also going there need lifting," Falih said at the Future Sustainability Summit in Abu Dhabi.

According to the minister, without a well-functioning energy system, these countries' economies will struggle, which will only make chaos linger in the region.

The Future Sustainability Summit started in Abu Dhabi earlier on Tuesday and will last through Wednesday. The international forum is focused on joint international efforts aimed at helping the world meet its sustainability challenges.
