JIT holds Nawaz Sharif responsible in Pakpattan shrine case

The court has sought a reply from Nawaz Sharif in two weeks.

Lahore (Pakistan Point News – 15th January, 2018) The Joint Investigation Team (JIT) has held former prime minister Nawaz Sharif responsible in the Pakpattan shrine case.

A hearing on the Pakpattan shrine case was held in the Supreme Court on Tuesday.

The court has sought a reply from Nawaz Sharif in two weeks.

During the hearing, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar asked who allotted the land for Pakpattan shrine.

The JIT head responded that the land was allotted by then Punjab chief minister Nawaz Sharif.

According to the JIT report, Nawaz Sharif transferred the land for shrine illegally.

On Dec 14, the Supreme Court had constituted a JIT comprising officials of the National Counter-Terrorism Authority (Nacta), Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Intelligence Bureau (IB) to probe the role of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif in allotment of land adjacent to Pakpattan in 1986, allegedly in violation of a high court order.

Being the chief minister of Punjab, Nawaz Sharif had, in 1986, ordered withdrawing a notification of Dec 17, 1969 and allegedly allotted 14,000 kanals of land of the Auqaf Department around Pakpattan to Dewan Ghulam Qutab in violation of the high court order.

In October, 2018, the top court directed Nawaz to submit within two weeks a reply related to the matter of withdrawal of notification concerning the Auqaf property attached with the shrine of Hazrat Baba Faridud Din Masud Ganj Shakar, Pakpattan Sharif, which had taken place about 32 years ago, when the matter was subjudice in the apex court.
