Afghan Election Commission Announces Preliminary Parliamentary Vote Results - Reports

The Independent Election Commission (IEC) of Afghanistan announced on Monday the preliminary results of the October parliamentary elections, local media reported

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 14th January, 2019) The Independent Election Commission (IEC) of Afghanistan announced on Monday the preliminary results of the October parliamentary elections, local media reported.

The IEC said that 33 people, including 24 men and nine women, received enough votes to become lawmakers in the lower house of the country's parliament, the Khaama Press Agency reported.

The Afghan parliamentary elections were held on October 20 amid threats from the Taliban movement and several attacks across the country. According the Afghan Interior Ministry, at least 28 people were killed, while nearly 250 were injured in the attacks on the election day.

The voting has become the first parliamentary election in Afghanistan since 2010. In 2016, the election was postponed over unstable security situation in the country.
