Total Of 45,000 Tourists Visit Kaliningrad Region During Winter Holidays - Local Gov't

KALININGRAD (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 12th January, 2019) As many as 45,000 tourists visited Russia's Kaliningrad Region during the winter holidays, including some 4,500 foreign nationals, the regional government said in a statement on Friday.

"There were a lot of tourists, mostly those coming from other Russian regions ... Between December 24 and January 8, a total of 45,000 people visited the Kaliningrad Region. About 10 percent of them, or 4,500 people, were foreigners," the statement read, citing regional Tourism Minister Andrey Yermak.

Compared to last year's figures, the number of people vising the region in the given period increased by 14.2 percent, according to Yermak.

The number of people arriving to Kaliningrad's Khrabrovo airport between December 24 and January 8 was about 94,000, the airport said, with tourists mostly coming from the Russian cities of Ufa, Kazan, Yekaterinburg, St. Petersburg and Moscow.
