LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 11th Jan, 2019 ) :Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar Friday urged judges to play their role for providing quick justice.
Addressing a ceremony organised by the Lahore High Court Bar Association here, he said the judges enjoyed great respect in the past, which might have decreased to some extent in present era due to non-provision of quick justice.
He urged the judges to perform their duties with utmost ability and honesty, adding that it was a service.
Referring to steps taken for provision of fundamental rights including treatment facilities at the hospitals, the chief justice said that the foundation of judicial activism was laid on good intentions and it was not aimed to ridicule others or interfere in their domains.
He said he always respected domains of the others and never crossed the boundary.
He said that the lawyers were part and parcel of the judicial system, adding that they should work hard for esteem of the profession.
He also hinted that police reforms were being introduced on January 14, which would reduce burden on the courts caused by applications moved under 22A/22B of CRPC. A mechanism would be provided to redress the grievances regarding 22A/22B in the said reforms, he added.
He further said that no references were pending in the Supreme Judicial Council except two and the same would be decided on merit.
"We are holding our accountability as an institution", he said and added that lawyers bodies should also adopt the same practice for cleaning their house.
Earlier, Lahore High Court Chief Justice Sardar Muhammad Shamim Khan also addressed the ceremony and appreciated services of the CJP for enforcement of fundamental rights.
A large number of lawyers were also present on the occasion, besides Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa and other judges.
