UN General Assembly President To Visit Pakistan Next Week - Spokeswoman

UNITED NATIONS (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 12th January, 2019) UN General Assembly President Maria Fernanda Espinosa will travel to Pakistan next week which will be her first official visit to the region since taking office, her Spokesperson Monica Grayley said in a press briefing on Friday.

"The President of the General Assembly will visit Pakistan from the 18th to the 22nd of January at the invitation of the government of Pakistan," Grayley said. "This will be the first official visit to the Asia-Pacific region since Maria Fernanda Espinosa took office in September."

During her visit, the president aims to strengthen the ties between the country and the United Nations, as well as promote multilateralism, the spokeswoman added.

Espinosa is expected to meet with President of Pakistan Arif Alvi, Prime Minister Imran Khan, and Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi. The president will also hold meetings with the representatives of the United Nations in Pakistan and the civil society to discuss the work on the priorities of the 73d session of the General Assembly.
