MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 11th January, 2019) The United Nations hopes that a supervisory committee on the exchange of prisoners in Yemen will meet by the end of January, UN Special Envoy for Yemen Martin Griffiths, who is now visiting Moscow, told Sputnik on Friday."The release of prisoners is a huge deal ... We are hoping to have a meeting of that committee quite soon. They are exchanging lists to make sure that they know who is there to be released and we're still hoping [the committee meeting will take place] within this month," Griffiths said.
The UN-led consultations on the Yemeni peace process held in Sweden last month resulted in an agreement on various humanitarian measures, including a proposal for the exchange of prisoners, a ceasefire in the Yemeni port city of Al Hudaydah, and the establishment of humanitarian corridors in the area.
