Trump Says 'Not Worried' About Ex-Personal Attorney Cohen Testifying Before US Congress

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 11th January, 2019) US President Donald Trump told reporters that he is not concerned about his former personal attorney and fixer Michael Cohen's public testimony before the House Oversight and Reform Committee that's is scheduled for February 7.

"I'm not worried about it at all," Trump said on Thursday when asked about Cohen testifying to Congress as quoted in a pool report.

Trump learned about Cohen's decision during his visit to the border amid negotiations over the US-Mexico wall project.

Earlier in the day, Cohen said in a statement he agreed to testify publicly and looks forward to having the privilege of giving an opportunity to provide a "full and credible account" of Trumps' relations with Russia.

Cohen in a plea deal with prosecutors at the end of last year alleged that Trump directed him to make hush payments to two women over extramarital affairs during the 2016 presidential election. Cohen also admitted to lying about knowledge of talks between the Trump campaign and Russian officials over building a Trump Tower in Moscow.

Cohen was sentenced to 36 months in prison for campaign finance violations, tax evasion, making false statements to a bank in connection with a case brought by the Southern District Court of New York and lying to Congress in connection with the Special Counsel's investigation of the 2016 US presidential election.

Trump called Cohen a liar and a weak person and denied any collusion with Russia, saying the investigation is a political witch hunt that has not produced evidence in two years. Russian officials also refuted the allegations of collusion and intentions to sway the US election in favor of Trump.
