CAIRO (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 10th January, 2019) Egypt and the United States agreed on Thursday to hold talks in the 2+2 format between their foreign and defense ministers by the end of 2019, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said following the talks with his US counterpart, Mike Pompeo."Preparations are being made for holding a meeting in the 2 + 2 format by the end of this year," Shoukry said at a joint press conference with Pompeo.
Cairo and Washington are also developing a bilateral agreement on strategic partnership, which will cover political dialogue as well as economic and technical cooperation, the foreign minister noted.
Pompeo is currently on a visit to Egypt as part of his tour across the middle East. The US state secretary has already visited Jordan and Iraq. After his visit to Egypt, Pompeo is expected to travel to the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Oman.
