Close the schools if you want but return one month fee: CJP

A hearing on the hike in private school fee was held in the Supreme Court on Thursday.

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 10th January, 2019) Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar has ordered the private schools to return one month fee to the parents.

A hearing on the hike in private school fee was held in the Supreme Court on Thursday.

Private School Association President Zafran Elahi appeared before the court and said if the Supreme Court orders to return one-month fee is implemented, the schools would have to be closed.

To this, the CJP said, “Close the schools if you want,” adding that the schools are earning billions of rupees.

The court ordered to make 20 per cent reduction on school fee greater than Rs 5000.

The court directed the law and justice commission to report regarding the termination of teachers and lack of facilities in schools.

The Supreme Court had ordered all those private schools which have received fee during last summer vacations 2018 to adjust or refund half of such fees at the earliest but not later than February 12, 2019.

In its December 13 ruling, the apex court had ordered all private schools to reduce 20 per cent monthly fee.

The Supreme Court also barred private schools from increasing the annual fee by more than five percent.

Any hike of more than five percent in school fee would have to be approved by a regulatory board, the court ordered, adding that in any case, the increase in fee could not be more than eight percent.
