Renowned Punjabi film hero 'Sultan Rahi' remembered today

The 23rd death anniversary of one of the Pakistani Film Industry's Greats Muhammad Sultan Khan, also known as 'Sultan Rahi' was observed on Wednesday

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 9th Jan, 2019 ) :The 23rd death anniversary of one of the Pakistani Film Industry's Greats Muhammad Sultan Khan, also known as 'Sultan Rahi' was observed on Wednesday.

In this connection, his fans and colleagues from all around the world expressed how much they miss and appreciate him. For most of them, Rahi's tenure in the industry was the 'golden era' of the Pakistani cinema.

Rugged looks, brawny and stocky, with an aggressive style of dialogue delivery was what made Sultan Rahi an actor who had an everlasting impression on everyone.

In 1938, the Acting legend was born in a Muslim family in Utter Pradesh in India.

Sultan's family migrated to Pakistan after partition in 1947 and settled in Gujranwala later.

He began his film career in 1959 as a guest actor in the film Baghi. Maula Jatt was released on 11 February 1979 which became his most successful Pakistani film.

His other works include Behram Daku (1980), Sher Khan (1981), Sala Sahib and Ghulami (1985).On 9th January 1966, Actor Sultan Rahi was murdered by some unknown persons during a highway robbery on the Grand Trunk Road (GT Road) near Gujranwala, while coming back to Lahore from Islamabad.

At the time of his death, Sultan was 58. He remained the most popular Punjabi hero during 1970s and 1980s.
