Anti-Russian Sentiment Still Prevails in Washington - Kremlin Spokesman

US authorities and lawmakers in Washington continue to express unfriendly sentiments toward Russia, a trend that shows no sign of going away, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Wednesday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 09th January, 2019) US authorities and lawmakers in Washington continue to express unfriendly sentiments toward Russia, a trend that shows no sign of going away, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Wednesday.

"As for unfriendly manifestations, there are still a lot of them in Washington, both in the Congress, the Senate, the State Department, and so on. We are not inclined to wear rose-tinted glasses and are aware that such unfriendly manifestations are still, probably, dominating, unfortunately," Peskov said.

The Kremlin spokesman refrained from commenting on the calls of some US congressmen to delay plans to lift sanctions on Russian companies Rusal and EN+ Group, both of which are affiliated with Russian businessman Oleg Deripaska.

"We, in fact, would prefer to be very careful in terms of any statements about sanctions against Deripaska's companies. A meticulous work is underway there, and let it be carried on further," Peskov said, asked to comment on the US congressmen's calls against lifting sanctions on Deripaska's companies.

Earlier in the day, the leaders of seven committees in the US House of Representatives urged Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin in a letter to delay plans to lift sanctions on Rusal, EN+ Group and EuroSibEnergo so that members of Congress could be briefed on the matter.

The letter comes in response to the Treasury's announcement last month that it would lift the sanctions on Rusal, EN+ Group and EuroSibEngergo in January after the companies agreed to undertake structural reforms to reduce Deripaska's ownership.
