German Trade Union Calls for Strikes at Stuttgart, Duesseldorf, Koeln Airports

German trade union Verdi on Wednesday called on security workers from airports in the cities of Stuttgart, Duesseldorf and Koeln to hold a strike to demand a payment raise on Thursday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 09th January, 2019) German trade union Verdi on Wednesday called on security workers from airports in the cities of Stuttgart, Duesseldorf and Koeln to hold a strike to demand a payment raise on Thursday.

According to a trade union statement, the strikes will begin Thursday morning, with the one at Stuttgart airport expected to start at 8 a.m. local time (07:00 GMT). Similar strikes on Monday resulted in the cancellation of about 60 flights at two Berlin airports.

"In such a way Verdi is boosting pressure on the Federal Association of Aviation Security Companies [BDLS], which failed to react on a powerful signal sent with a warning strike at the Berlin airports of Tegel and Schoenefeld on Monday," the statement said.

Verdi and BDLS have failed to reach an agreement on increasing the wages for security employees at German airports. The trade union demands that the net wage go up to 20 Euros (about $23) per hour.
