A total of six people have died in Georgia from swine flu over one month, the Caucasus country's Center for Disease Control director, Amiran Gamkrelidze, said Thursday.

TBILISI (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 03rd January, 2019) A total of six people have died in Georgia from swine flu over one month, the Caucasus country's Center for Disease Control director, Amiran Gamkrelidze, said Thursday.

"As of now, 144 cases have been confirmed in a laboratory ... six people passed away," Gamkrelidze told reporters, adding the nation was "far away from a pandemic."

The CDC chief said that the spread of the respiratory disease, caused by the H1N1 strain, was progressing at a moderate rate, but the number of complications surpassed those recorded in 2018.
