More than 54,000 people caught measles in Ukraine in 2018 with over half of them being children, the country's Healthcare Ministry said on Wednesday in a statement.
KIEV (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 02nd January, 2019) More than 54,000 people caught measles in Ukraine in 2018 with over half of them being children, the country's Healthcare Ministry said on Wednesday in a statement."In the 52nd week of 2018, 2,154 more people - 865 adults and 1,289 children - caught measles. A total of 54,481 - 20,204 adults and 34,277 children - were infected with measles in 2018," the statement said.
The Healthcare Ministry added that 16 cases of measles infection were lethal with 12 children and four adults having died of the disease.
Measles is a highly contagious airborne virus. Vaccination is the major means of prevention.
