US Has No Evidence Of Foreign Involvement In 2018 Election Process - Intelligence Chief

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 22nd December, 2018) The 17 major agencies of the US Intelligence Community have no evidence to support charges that the 2018 election process in the United States was in any way distorted or interfered with by foreign governments, Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats said in a report.

"At this time, the Intelligence Community does not have intelligence reporting that indicates any compromise of our nation's election infrastructure that would have prevented voting, changed vote counts or disrupted the ability to tally votes," Coats said in the report on Friday.

The report said Russia and other countries, including China and Iran, conducted influencing activities and messaging campaigns targeted at the United States to promote their interests, but the US intelligence services did not make an assessment of the impact these activities had on the 2018 election.

The Intelligence Community is charged with monitoring and assessing the intentions, capabilities and actions of foreign actors and does not analyze US political processes or political opinion, the report added.
