MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 20th December, 2018) Russian President Vladimir Putin said Thursday he saw the presidential election and the FIFA World Cup as the main events of the outgoing year.Asked what the highlight of 2018 was, Putin said, "there are two of them. It is obviously the presidential election, which was important for the entire country, and the World Cup, which was important for the country and, it turns out, for the rest of the world."
Putin was reelected for a fourth term in March with more than 76 percent of the vote. Months after that, the country hosted a global football championship, bringing together 32 national teams to compete for the FIFA World Cup at a dozen of venues in June and July.
