WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 20th December, 2018) President Donald Trump was correct to pull US combat forces out of Syria and end the unconstitutional and congressionally unauthorized US war in Syria, Congressman Ted Lieu said in a press release.
"I strongly agree with the President's decision to withdraw US troops from Syria. Congress never authorized the United States to go to war in Syria," Lieu said on Wednesday. "I am pleased that this unauthorized and failed executive branch war in Syria will finally come to an end."
Lieu noted that the Trump and Obama administrations went far beyond the congressionally authorized use of force against terrorists.
"[N]either administration had a strategy for Syria. Neither administration could articulate why American troops were fighting in Syria, what the desired end state should be, nor how we would achieve it... I repeatedly criticized both administrations... for taking war actions not authorized by Congress," Lieu said.
Earlier on Wednesday, the White House announced the removal of all US troops deployed in Syria, and the Defense Department said they already started the process of returning the US servicemen home.
The US troops will be withdrawn from Syria within a period of 60 to 100 days, according to media reports.
