US Solar Panels Protecting Russian ISS Module From Overheating - Source

The US solar panels at the International Space Station (ISS) are protecting the Russian Zvezda service module from overheating, a space industry source told Sputnik on Wednesday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 19th December, 2018) The US solar panels at the International Space Station (ISS) are protecting the Russian Zvezda service module from overheating, a space industry source told Sputnik on Wednesday.

"At the moment, the orbit in which the station is moving is completely illuminated by direct sunlight. As a result, the radiators of Zvezda [module] that remove heat are not effective enough, and the equipment inside the module can overheat. Moreover, the increased temperature can create inconvenience for Russian cosmonauts working and living inside the module," the source said.

The source added that the orientation of the ISS had been changed yesterday, and now the US solar panels periodically shadow the radiators, improving the Zvezda module's thermal control system.

The average temperature at the ISS is 23 Celsius (73.4 Fahrenheit), according to cosmonauts.
