MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 18th December, 2018) Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov and UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Mark Lowcock on Tuesday met in Moscow to discuss humanitarian agenda focusing on the crises in Syria and Yemen, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

"In the course of the talks, the pressing issues of international humanitarian agenda with a special focus on the current situation in Syria and Yemen were discussed," the ministry said in a statement.

On Monday, Lowcock participated in consultations with Russian Deputy Defense Minister Alexander Fomin, during which he was informed about the Russian Defense Ministry' efforts to deliver humanitarian aid to civilians in need in Syria, as well as to create conditions for the return of refugees.

Russia, alongside Iran and Turkey, is a guarantor of the ceasefire regime in Syria. Moscow has also been assisting Damascus both through supporting the struggle against the terrorist groups and by providing humanitarian aid to residents of the crisis-torn country.

Yemen has been ravaged by almost four years of war between an internationally backed government, aided by a Saudi-led coalition, and the Houthi rebels. The one-week UN-mediated talks on Yemen crisis settlement finished on Thursday. The sides agreed on a governorate-wide ceasefire and withdrawal of forces in Al Hudaydah, the establishment of a UN-chaired committee to monitor the process, a prisoner exchange, and humanitarian corridors to the city of Taiz.
