Russian Foreign Ministry Refutes Allegations of Zimbabwe Presidential Election Meddling

Moscow refutes accusations of its alleged meddling into the presidential election in Zimbabwe, as it qualifies these "insinuations" as part of an anti-Russian campaign, Andrei Kemarsky, the director of the Russian Foreign Ministry's Department of Africa, told Sputnik

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 18th December, 2018) Moscow refutes accusations of its alleged meddling into the presidential election in Zimbabwe, as it qualifies these "insinuations" as part of an anti-Russian campaign, Andrei Kemarsky, the director of the Russian Foreign Ministry's Department of Africa, told Sputnik.

"Well, if Russia 'contributed' to US President [Donald] Trump's victory, such bogus stories related to African states are hardly surprising ... These insinuations are part of a campaign that is being pursued against our country in all kinds of directions. It's no surprise that out 'partners' descend to using similar methods on the African continent," Kemarsky said.

On July 30, presidential and parliamentary elections were held in Zimbabwe. Emmerson Mnangagwa, the leader of the ruling Zimbabwe African National Union - Patriotic Front party, secured victory with slightly over 50 percent of votes, despite opposition Movement for Democratic Change Alliance's claims that the results had been manipulated by the electoral commission.

The United States has repeatedly accused Russia of meddling into the 2016 US presidential election, which Moscow firmly refuted.
