Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad Monday announced that Prime Minister Imran Khan would lay foundation stone of Lai Expressway soon.
Talking to newsmen, he said the Expressway would be a great facility for the residents of the city.
He said the signal free Expressway would be started from the Swan Bridge instead of the Amar Chowk in Chaklala to facilitate maximum population, adding, the road would change fate of the citizens particularly living along the Lai Nullah as they would be allowed to construct commercial buildings along the road.
Super markets would be established at both sides of the Expressway, he said and informed that efforts would also be made to lay rail track along the road.
The minister said, "I had the idea of Lai Expressway nearly 14 years ago when its cost was estimated nearly Rs14 billion but, now it has gone up from Rs30 billion." He expressed the hope that construction work of the project would be started before March 2019 and all the stakeholders would be taken on board. The motorists would be charged a nominal toll, he said.
He further said former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and president Asif Ali Zardari looted the nation with both hands and now they were claiming that the democracy would not flourish in present circumstances.
He said now, people would decide between 'thief' and 'guardian'. The thieves who looted the nation and national exchequer were responsible for the heavy taxes on electricity, gas and others, due to which the citizens were facing financial problems.
The people wanted democracy of justice and decency, he said adding, Asif Zardari, who is visiting different areas of Sindh, had envisaged his future.
Replying to a question, he said people would have a better understanding after March 30, that Imran Khan was a player or not. Imran Khan was a person who had never labeled with any corruption charge and he would not tolerate any corrupt minister in his cabinet, he claimed.
The minister said, "I told Nawaz Sharif during hearing of the Panama case that I will be in the National Assembly but you will not be no more in the parliament." He informed that he was making all out efforts to make Pakistan Railways a profitable institution. Innovations are being introduced to make Pakistan Railways self-sufficient, he added.
"The task given by Prime Minister Imran Khan would be completed at all cost," he said.
To a question, he strongly condemned the tortureof Nawaz Sharif's guards on electronic channels' cameramen saying FIR should beregistered against them and they should be sent behind the bars.
